Details: Anatomy of Climb
Pinehurst starts out very gradually from the intersection with Canyon Rd. and only really starts climbing in earnest about 3 miles in. The really serious stuff doesn't begin until the last half mile or so when you hit the 180 switchback and start making the final ascent to Skyline where the grade averages 11.6%, which means that riders who in not in shape are off their bikes walking and those in shape have to reach down for a little extra something to get up to the finish at Skyline.
